500 ml whole milk, 1 egg, 30 g sugar, ½ Teaspoon Vanilla Extract, 30 g corn flour or corn starch
  • Once the custard thickens, you can test this using the back of a spoon or spatular, remove the pan from the heat and serve.

Notes

Storage
Keep freshly made custard in the fridge if you are not using it straight away. Place cling film over the top to prevent skin from forming.
Tips
Tip 1: Adjust the amount of cornflour for a thinner runny custard. Or add more milk or cream.
Tip 2: As an alternative to added sugar, try using Honey, Maple Syrup or Date Syrup.
Tip 3: For a richer tasting custard, replace some of the milk with single or double cream.
Why Is My Custard Lumpy?
To avoid lumpy custard, stir continuously while simmering over medium heat.
