Chewy and sweet, these easy to make Flapjacks with Honey and (without Golden syrup), are baked in 20 mins and ready to eat once they have cooled a little. The best part about these Flapjacks is their sweet, sticky, chewy softness and hint of Honey. Like these Easy Chewy Flapjack Recipe - (using Golden Syrup) and Fruit Flapjacks (using dried fruits), they are ideal for snacks, gifting and bake sales.

Ingredients and Substitutions
This is just an overview of the ingredients I used, with possible alternatives and why I may have used them. See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and quantities.
- Butter - Unsalted. I love using butter because of the taste. Use the best that you can find. If you choose to make these Honey Flapjacks with Margarine, the flavour will be slightly different. Margarine contains less fat but more oil and water than butter.
- Soft Brown Sugar - Brown Sugar gives the added toffee flavour to all baking.
- Porridge Oats - Do not use Jumbo Oats as they are far too large for making Flapjacks and could cause them to crumble.
- Honey - Using set or runny honey is fine. Again use the most flavourfull honey that you can find. Maple Syrup is also fine.
- Salt - Just a pinch but you can leave it out if you wish.
- Spelt (Wholemeal) Flour - Any wholemeal flour is fine. Most of my baking these days uses an ancient grain called Spelt Flour. It works in the same way as Plain (All Purpose) Flour. You will find it in some of these WholeGrain recipes. TIP: Using plain white flour, as I did in these Easy Chewy Flapjack Recipe is fine with this recipe.
Step by Step Instructions
Preheat the oven to 180c fan assisted. Grease and line the base and sides of a square baking tin 8 inch (20cm) x 8 inch (20cm) with baking parchment.
Step 1: Melt the butter, sugar, and honey in a large pan over a very gentle heat until all the sugar and butter have melted.
Step 2: Mix the Oats, salt and flour together in a large bowl, make a well in the centre.
Step 3: Pour in the melted butter and sugar liquid.
Step 4: Mix thoroughly until everything is well combined.
Step 5: Using the back of a spoon start to spread the mixture in the tin.
Step 6: Spread the mixture evenly and firmly to avoid the Flapjacks turning out crumbly.
Step 7: Bake in the centre of the oven for 20 minutes or until baked and golden brown in colour. Remove from the oven and leave to cool a little before partially slicing the top into sections, this makes it easier to slice through into bars when the Flapjacks have cooled completely.
Step 8: Only when they are completely cold, should you slice them into individual bars.
Storage
Keep in an airtight container.
Baker's Tips
- Tip 1 - Do not over cook the butter and sugar is the Flapjacks will become hard and difficult to eat.
- Tip 2 - This is very important, wait until the Flapjacks have cooled completely before you slice into individual bars.
